Overland Tour - 7 Nights / 8 Days ( Drive in & Fly out)
Day
01: Kathmandu - Zhangmu (2,300 m.) - 123 km.
Early morning drive from Kathmandu to Kodari (approx. 6 hrs). After completing
immigration and custom formalities, drive (approx. 35 minutes ) to Zhangmu
by land transportation or truck, provided there is no landslide. Otherwise, walk up the
hill with local porters which, will take 2 hrs. to Zhangmu Immigration
Post. Complete custom formalities. Stay at Zhangmu Hotel.
Day
02: Zhangmu - Xegar (4,350 m.) - 244 km.
Drive (approx.
7 hrs) to Xegar crossing Lalung La (5,050 m.) and Nyalamu Pass (3,800
m.). This drive offers fantastic view of the high mountains including
Mt. Everest (8,848 m.). Stay at Hotel Everest.
Day
03: Xegar - Xigatse (3,900 m.) - 244 km.
Drive (approx.
8 hrs. to Xigatse crossing Lhakpa La (5,220 m.) and Tsulo La (4,500 m.).
Xigatse has the famous Tashilumpo Monastery and seat of Panchen Lama until
his death in 1989 with its huge wall which is clearly visible on the north
side of the road. Stay at Hotel Xigatse.
Day
04: Xigatse - Gyantse (3,950 m.) - 90 km.
In the morning,
visit Tashilumpo Monastery and free market of Xigatse. In the afternoon,
drive to Gyantse and visit Phalkor Monastery
and Kumbum Stupa. Stay at Hotel Gyantse.
Day
05: Gyantse - Lhasa (3,650 m.) - 259 km.
8 hours drive
takes you to Lhasa crossing the Karo La (5,010 m.) and Kamba La (4,794
m.). You will drive via Yamdro Tso (Turquoise Lake) which takes approximately
1 hour to cross the lake. After passing Kamba La, Lhasa valley is seen
to the north and you will cross the bridge of Brhamputra River.
Day
06-07: Lhasa/Lhasa.
Guide will take
you on sightseeing tour of Potala Palace, Norbulingka, Jokhang Temple,
Derpung Monastery, Sera Monaster and
Barkhor Bazaar, Overnight stay at Hotel Holiday Inn/Hotel Himalaya.
Day
08: Prepare yourself for one of the most beautiful flights in the
world. On this trans Himalayan flight, you will see the Yarlung Tsangpo
River, Lake Yamdruk, Kanchanjunga (8,586 m.), Makalu (8,436 m.), and Everest
(8,848 m.). Transfer to Gonggar Airport,
which takes about 2 hrs and your flight duration is one hour ten minutes.
